Grim Fandango was one of the if not the last adventure game that was released in 1998 before the genre was declared dead in the USA. But what a great end this was! Grim Fandango leads you to the world of the dead. Over there you have to make a living until you make it to your final destination. While others are already traveling to their place of piece, others have to help them. The mexican skeleton Manny Calavera is one of them. While he pursues his boring job he discovers an underworld wide conspiracy…
Grim Fandango offers a beautifully pre-rendered world, which partially looks like a Tim Burton movie. The characters are real 3D-models rendered by Direct3D. The graphics are great and so is the speech output, which spans across the game. The voice actors do an excellent job to bring the dead to life. So do the musicians. Grim Fandango has a cool soundtrack, just go out of the building in that you start and tell me you don’t like that catchy mariachi tune that you can hear on the market You’ll totally forget that this game is almost 10 years old. You won’t just want to play this one to solve the puzzles, but especially to discover the story.
You’ll need 7z to extract the files and VirtualCD to mount the image.
